Manufacturer Anas Popcorn Recipients of the Promising Snack Brand award at the Bumiputera Business Excellence Awards 2021. Anas Popcorn is a snacks manufacturer known for the variety of popcorn flavors it sells, which also includes people’s favorite flavors such as caramel, hot and spicy, and ‘gula apong’.
Owned by Kawi Recipes, a Bumiputera company owned by Sarawak Malays, ANAS POPCORN started operating in 2015 with just a roadside stall. Backed by only an initial capital of RM800, the company started the business with the knowledge of making their product line through YouTube. After numerous struggles and business challenges, in early 2020, Anas Popcorn took up the strategy to implement the stockist system and expanded their stockist presence to locations like Miri, Bintulu, Sibu, Sarikei, Kuching, Samarahan, and Sri Aman.
Speaking of their success at the BBEA 2021, brand representative, Kawi bin Li, mentioned that the award is very important for Anas Popcorn especially in expanding its influence to a wider audience.
“We are proud to receive this award as it helps us to reach a wider audience in the country and specifically in Sarawak. Our popcorns are known to have a very unique taste as we prepare them the traditional way and our aim is to continue growing further from here,” said Kawi.
Motivated by their mission to become a small and medium enterprise (SME) company that supplies the best popcorn and to compete in the local and international markets, Anas Popcorn wishes to attract more customers to try out their products. Notably, their primary target is to attract women customers aged 18-48 who are based in Sarawak.
Sharing his advice to fellow up-and-coming entrepreneurs in the country, Kawi says that confidence and belief are two key components that will help drive a successful business venture. “Be confident in what we do and believe that success will follow,” Kawi comments.
